The long awaited nomination list is here! No, not the Oscars, that comes out tomorrow morning. I'm talking about the Golden Razzie nominations. Yes the awards that go to the absolute worst of the worst. The year's most terrible films and actors are presented with a Razzie for their "efforts" in categories like worst actor, director and onscreen couple. Here are my predictions for the winners, or in this case the losers. The entire list of nominees can be viewed here.
For me this would have went to Terminator: Genesis for further adding blemishes on a beloved franchise. Unfortunately it was left off the nomination list. Of the movies that were nominated however, my pick for worst of the year would have to go to the epic disaster Jupiter Ascending.
So many awful performances to choose from in this category, but my pick would have to be Johnny Depp's hammed performance in Mordecai. It's a good thing the actor did Black Mass because Mordecai could have been a deathblow.
I very much want to predict this award would go to Dakota Johnson for Fifty Shades of Crap, but I think the worst performance would go to Gwyneth Paltrow for Mordecai. Seriously, every actor that was in that movie should fire their agent.
Worst Supporting Actor
Chevy Chase is nominated for two roles in this category, but even though Vacation sucked his career is too depressing at this point to give him a Razzie. Eddie Redmayne, who got the Oscar for Best Actor last year, is up for Jupiter Ascending. Still not that bad or deserving. My guess would be it goes to Jason Lee for another terrible Chipmunks sequel.
Worst Supporting Actress
Let's see, Rooney Mara's performance in Pan was terrible and a tad racist, but Julianne Moore is one of the most respected actresses in Hollywood and she did a terrible film like Seventh Son. After all is said in done however, my pick would be Amanda Seyfried for not only Pan but Love the Coopers as well.
Worst Remake or Sequel
So many terrible reboots and sequels get pumped out every year. 2015 had turds like Mall Cop 2, Hot Tub Time Machine 2, Human Centipede 3; but the biggest turd of them all was undoubtedly the Fantastic Four reboot. Slow, boring, and terribly directed, I guarantee this gets the Razzie.
Worst Screen Combo
There's some great "nominations" for this category, including Johnny Depp and his moustache for Mordecai and Adam Sandler and his Shoes for Cobbler. The worst realistic onscreen couple that will probably nab this though would be Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson for Fifty Shades of Grey, thanks to a complete lack of chemistry.
This is really a tossup between Fantastic Four and Jupiter Ascending, which both suffered from a terrible direction, or lack there of. On the one hand Jupiter Ascending might be more of a sin, because it was produced by a once great directing team. At the end of the day though, I have to give it to Josh Trank for one of the worst directed movies I've ever seen.
Again, I'd have to give this to either Fantastic Four or Jupiter Ascending. I'm going to flip this though, and predict that Jupiter will walk away with the Razzie. The script has to be some of the most stilted, bloated, backwards-ass writing of the last couple of years.
Razzie Redeemer Award
Unlike the other Razzies, this award is actually positive. It is given to a person who has redeemed their career through a great film that was released in 2015. All four nominees, which include Sly Stallone, Will Smith, Elizabeth Banks and M. Night Shyamalan are quite deserving. I'll have to predict this goes to Stallone however for his brilliant performance for Creed.
Well those are my predictions for the Razzies, what're yours? Leave comments with who you think deserves to get a Razzie.
