Now that we've gone through the best Godzilla films, it's time to go through the worst that the Big G has to offer, and boy are there some stinkers. While some of the films unfairly get panned for being too campy and fake, these movies deserve the criticisms wholeheartedly for their terrible acting, cheesy effects, and mind-numbingly stupid plots. While they're terrible movies, but if you enjoy laughing at B-grade crapfests, check them out.
Here are the 8 Worst Godzilla Movies.
8. Godzilla vs. Hedorah
After the world's pollution gets to an unbearable level a giant smog monster named Hedorah appears and it's up to Godzilla to save the day. This one has weird acid induced animation sequences, awkward science lessons, strange hippies, and Godzilla flying like a rocket by using his atomic breath for takeoff. Yikes.
7. Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster
This movie is really more like Godzilla vs. the Giant Shrimp. After crash landing on an island a man and his team searching for his brother come across Godzilla, which is good news because an evil corporation has been using the Shrimp for their evil plot. It's up to Godzilla to battle the lame shrimp monster while suffering through the terrible dialog, story, special effects, and even worse soundtrack.
6. Godzilla 1997
When it was announced that Godzilla was going to adapted into a big budget American movie, fans went crazy with anticipation. Unfortunately that anticipation was rewarded with soul-crushing disappointment. The Godzilla in this Roland Emmerich disaster dwarfs in size compared to other incarnations, and comes across more as a giant iguana than the legendary kaiju.
5. Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla
Like Gigan, Spacegodzilla is another cool character wasted in a terrible movie. What really hurt this film was the terrible special effects. Around this time TOHO really cut back on Godzilla movie budgets and it definitely shows. The asteroids in space look like tennis balls against a black cloth, and the monster designs are extremely shoddy looking.
4. Godzilla vs. Megalon
This installment has the King of Monsters play fisticuffs with a giant cockroach called Megalon, who fights for a race of ancient people who live under the Earth's crust. Right. This was the movie that spawned the infamous Godzilla dropkick scene, check it out in the link above if you dare.
3. Son of Godzilla
During the 60's TOHO tried to make Godzilla more kid friendly which resulted in more camp and less action. The cheesiness culminated in this botched attempt which had Godzilla care for a youngling who blows smoke rings. Terrible.
2. Godzilla vs. Gigan
This one is straight garbage in so many different levels. A terrible plot involving cockroaches from outer space tanks this one straight out of the gate. Not even the inclusion of fan favorite Ghidorah can save this mess. The real tragedy is that the main antagonist Gigan is a really cool character, a cyborg-monster with a buzzsaw belly, but is completely wasted here.
1. Godzilla's Revenge
Everyone who saw this dud wanted revenge for sitting through such an atrocity. Out of its many sins, Godzilla's Revenge features an annoying boy protagonist who daydreams he's on Monster Island. What's worse is that he forms a connection with Godzilla Jr. who can inexplicably talk like a goofy doofus. The character designs are terrible and lazy, so lazy that most of the fights are stock footage of previous movies. It doesn't get any lower than this.
Do you have a list of movies that you want to recommend? Now you have a place to do it.
