Oscars tonight! Woo!
Comedian Chris Rock will be hosting. Hopefully Mr. Rock does a good job presenting at the Oscars, which is one of the toughest hosting gigs on the planet. If you take too many jabs at the Stars, you get panned for being insulting. If you're too passive, you get slammed for being dull. Hosting the Oscars is a task only a few have mastered, and a bunch have botched.
Here are the Best and Worst Oscar Hosts with clips of their performances.
Jackman was a charismatic host with a terrific opening number.
Nine time host Billy Crystal knows how it's done. He presents in a creative, funny and classy way, and is one of the Academy's favorite hosts.
Carson always provided plenty of laughs, and it showed as he was invited five times to host the ceremony.
Daily Show anchorman Stewart was a fantastic host who wasn't afraid to take a few well deserved barbs at the audience.
Awkward and just not that funny, Letterman's hosting abilities just didn't translate well when hosting the Academy Awards.
James Franco and Anne Hathaway
Awkward doesn't even begin to describe these two co-hosts. Hathaway was way too perky and Franco was way too zonked. The opening monologue is absolutely cringe worthy.
Chase kicked off his night with the line, "Good evening Hollywood phonies." Clearly the former SNL star didn't want to be there hosting, and it showed. Chase was boring and unfunny.
