(Warning: mild spoilers ahead)
Cuteness, they went with too much Panda cuteness this time around; and with more Pandas than ever, the cuteness level in Kung Fu Panda 3 was almost as cringe-worthy as reading 'cuteness' four times in this one sentence. I mean, what's with the dumb/hugging panda and those other pandas portrayed as idiots. And the Tigress-toy kid, the dumb antics of Po & his dad in the Jade palace, and those of Po at other times. *sigh*.
Coming to Kai now, he was probably the least fleshed out Villain of all 3 films. Tai Long was awesome, even Shen was cool. But, Kai: one day he's carrying Oogway, his brother-in-arms, to safety through the freaking storm and the next, he's turning the same Pandas who saved his friend, into Jade stones?! Right.
Though the first half was pretty disappointing, it does bounce back in the second where the goofiness is toned down a bit and we get to travel into the spirit realm for the final battle. But sadly, don't expect it to top the awesomeness of this. And It was great to see Oogway again, albeit in the spirit realm.
But I guess my love for the Kung Fu Panda franchise doesn't exist anymore. At least not as much as it did after watching the First movie when the Writers and Directors hadn't taken it's viewers for granted. So when Dreamworks say that: parts 4, 5 & 6 are in the pipeline, I sure hope they hire the right people for it; seeing as how Kung Fu Panda 3 didn't do so well at the US or the Overseas box office.
