Netflix has been on a hot streak as of late, with hit shows like Orange is the New Black, House of Cards and Master of None. Now it seems Netflix will be trying it's hat at producing original movies along with shows. The critically acclaimed Beasts of No Nation dropped on the streaming device earlier this year, generating much buzz about Netflix's ability to create gripping original content.
Unfortunately that buzz was then shifted over to Adam Sandler's movie, The Ridiculous Six, another Netflix original that is now the most watched movie on the streaming device by 30 times over. Too bad the film is a complete mess and waste of good talent. Netflix is now 1-1 and it might be make or brake time pending on it's next movie.
This could be even more up in the air considering Netflix is now producing another Pee-wee Herman flick called Pee-wee's Big Holiday, slated for a March 18 release.
I liked Pee-wee's big adventure as much as the next person thanks to Tim Burton's unorthodox direction and Paul Reuben's performance of the titular character. But the sequel, Big Top Pee-wee was definitely a miss, and that was over 25 years ago. Pee-wee's Big Holiday could join the many legions of tired sequels that wait far too long to get produced. The result is a lack of chemistry and magic, creating a boring, bland mess. Who knows though, it could be interesting, although I'm being very reserved about getting my hopes up. I guess we'll just have to wait to see.
