This is what happens when they mess around with a script that was originally intended for another movie. Solace, scripted by Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven) was meant for the 1995 classic Se7en's sequel. Unfortunately/Fortunately it never saw the light of day. And you know Hollywood, they'd never let a day-old fish go to waste. So, rewrites after rewrites later, they came up with this contraption -- a fish stew..and yes, you've heard that before in The Big Short.
Anthony Hopkins plays a psychic (think Shawn Spencer, but with real abilities) who could do what Bruce Wills does in Unbreakable (no no, not the super-human strength; He's a bit too fragile for that. I meant the touch someone and you see their past, present and future part.) So, Hopkins is consulted to help with the hunt for a serial killer (surprise, surprise); except he's a good, almost saintly guy in this. And yeah, a boring, supernatural, Next-ish hunt begins...
Everything from the script, to the performances and direction just falls flat! Jeffrey Dean Morgan & Abbie Cornish looked bored, Anthony Hopkins seemed like he just wanted to get it over with and Collin Farrell does a Bullseye (but with hair and without a beard). It had one of the worst main-stream car chases I've ever seen, the ending was ridiculous, and well, I'd tell my younger self to steer clear of this one if I ever got a chance to travel back in time. Lol, kidding, it wasn't that bad. Just, disappointed to see a bunch of talented actors go to waste.
