Unlike the first movie, which took a number of years and a lot of back and forth to actually be produced and released, the sequel to Ant-Man will come to our screens way faster. Both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will be returning to the franchise as Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, and we just got word that Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari are joining the writing team. The idea is that both of them along with Paul Rudd will develop the story with Adam McKay, and then the three of them will go on and write the actual screenplay. Both Barrer and Ferrari worked on the first movie, but went un-credited. Plot details are still unknown, but there’s speculation that the sequel will revolve around The Wasp looking for her mother, Janet van Dyne.
Marvel is keeping it all in the family since Peyton Reed is also returning to direct the sequel, and actor Michael Douglas will reprise his role as Hank Pym. Additional casting is yet to be announced.
This movie also marks the first (of many, hopefully) time that a female hero is in the title of a movie. The scheduled date of release is July 6th 2018, date that originally belonged to Captain Marvel, which was moved back to 2019. We will be seeing Scott Lang before then, however, since Rudd is set to appear on Captain America: Civil War , which opens on May 6th 2016 (just in case you don’t have that already memorized). No casting announcements have been made on The Avengers: Infinity War, which is set to be released on May 4th, 2018, but considering Rudd’s multipicture deal, there’s a good chance we’ll be seeing him then as well.
