Tina Fey has been promoting “Sisters” and her “SNL” hosting gig along with Amy Poehler like crazy these past few weeks, so there’s a chance you might have missed the trailer for her new movie, “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” . Written by her frequent collaborator and both “30 Rock” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” writer and producer, Robert Carlock, the movie is based on the memoir “The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan” by Kim Barker. The book is a witty and comedic account of Barker’s experiences as a journalist reporting on Pakistan and Afghanistan back in 2002.
The trailer shows us a typical Tina Fey character: career woman who struggles to balance her personal and professional life. As a huge fan of Fey, this premise is good enough for me even though it feels like we’ve already seen it a few times. However, it’s definitely going to be interesting seeing her in such a different setting. The rest of the cast also looks promising, with names like Margot Robbie, who’s in the best moment of the trailer along with Fey, Martin Freeman and Josh Charles.
The film is directed by Glenn Ficarra and John John Requa, who also directed “Crazy, Stupid, Love” back in 2011. Tina Fey confirmed last year that her production company, Little Stranger, would be in charge of the adaptation and Lorne Michaels, along with Carlock, would be producing the picture. The movie comes out in theaters on March 4th, 2016.
