A few weeks ago, it was announced that Tom Cruise might be appearing on Universal’s “The Mummy” reboot. Now, there may be another casting under way. Sofia Boutella, who you probably remember as the badass villain Gazelle, from “Kingsman: The Secret Service”, is reportedly in talks to play the title character. Yep, though we don’t know much about the actual plot of the film, it’s been reported that this time around, The Mummy might be female and that the movie will be set on present day. Universal is still not making any comments regarding the casting process.
“Kingsman” was Boutella’s first prominent role, and since then she’s secured deals for “Star Trek Beyond” and “The Coldest City” , which are both set to be released next year.
Jon Spaihts, who also wrote “Prometheus”, wrote the screenplay and Alex Kurtzman will be directing the feature. The movie will be the first one in the so-called Universal Cinematic Universe, which will bring back characters such as Dracula, Van Helsing and Frankenstein and have them all interconnected. This is Universal following Marvel and DC’s example and jumping on the bandwagon of cinematic universes, seeing as that is a pretty lucrative business right now. “The Mummy” is scheduled to be released on March 24th 2017, while the other films have no release dates as of yet.
The opinions about this reboot are still pretty mixed, but what do you think?
