Man, it's April already? It seems like winter rolled by in a blink of an eye.
That's good news for anyone who hates the cold, and good news for movie fans. Spring means that Summer is right around the corner, and when you think of Summer you have to think of blockbuster movies.
Studios love to crank out their big budgeted epics during the warm season, and Summer 2016 is chalk full of big-budgeted juggernauts. There's so many that it's almost hard to keep track of them all.
Below you'll find a list of all the 2016 Summer Blockbusters along with a link to their juicy trailers that should get you hyped up for this year's big budgeted movie season.
Captain America: Civil War
Anticipated doesn't even begin to describe the Russo Brothers' next entry in the Captain America Saga. Civil War chronicles the split in the Avengers which leaves Iron Man and Cap on opposite sides of the playing field. It's no secret that Marvel = $$$ and this movie is going to have anybody who has heard of the term "comic book movie" flock to the theaters. Intense action and even intenser conflicts between Rogers and Stark will hopefully make this movie one of the more memorable ones this summer. Releases May 6th.
This entry in the long running X-Men franchise has the superhero team do battle with super-villain Apocalypse. Apocalypse is supposedly one of the strongest mutants ever in the comics so this should make an interesting premise for a movie.
Honestly my hype meter for this one isn't bursting through the roof. After the medicore Days of Future Past hopefully director Bryan Singer can make a more interesting movie. Releases May 27th.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
That's certainly a mouthful for a title. This sequel to the Ninja Turtles reboot looks bigger in scope and massive in scale. Just take a look at the trailer above; it looks to be on the same scale of an Avengers movie. Not quite sure what to think of this one. Ninja Turtles seems to thrive under a smaller scale, and the opposite seems to be happening here. It seems the humor will remain intact so this movie is up in the air as of now. Releases June 3rd.
This could be the surprise hit of the summer. No doubt this big-budget movie based on the popular Blizzard game will make money, but it might be elevated past standard popcorn fare with Duncan Jones at the helm who has given audiences some of the best sci-fi movies of the last 10 years. Releases June 10th.
Independence Day: Resurgence
My personal pick for most anticipated movie of the summer(I grew up in the '90s so yeah). This sequel to the 1996 blockbuster has the aliens return to earth with a score to settle. Director Roland Emmerich and most of the cast (minus Will Smith) will be returning so hopefully Resurgence lives up to it's popular predecessor. Releases June 24th.
The reboot to the 1984 classic that, let's be honest here, no one was really asking for. The trailer left the internet community divided and up in arms, some supporting it and some completely bashing it. Will the new Ghostbusters be good? Only time will tell. Releases July 15th.
Star Trek: Beyond
They've got no ship, no crew, and the same formulaic plot devices as the other two entries. Star Trek Beyond looks about as interesting as it's last entry, which wasn't that interesting. This will be the first time director JJ Abrams won't be at the helm so not sure what to expect from Beyond. Releases July 22nd.
Imprisoned Batman super-villains get their shot at redemption when a government agency recruits them to "save the world." This is make or break time for Warner Bros. after the aftermath of Batman v Superman and they really need a hit in Suicide Squad. Hopefully the star power of Will Smith and that awesome trailer scored to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" will be enough to get people in the seats. I know I will be. Releases August 5th.
